"Read"

*read*

Whether you're pouring your heart out to someone or just saying "What's up", *read* is always a dreaded thing to see. Replying to someone is common courtesy. If someone leaves you on read it's like trying to start a conversation with someone only to have them run away.

Example:
"Hey! When's the movie night?"
*read*
"Yo, what's the math homework"
*read*
"Only losers leave people on read"
*doesn't even see your message*
"Only losers choose to not even read the message"
*blocks you*

This happened to me recently:

If you don't know, the empty arrow means they opened your message and didn't reply.
Maybe I need new friends.

What's even worse is when someone ignores your message but replies to a message in a group chat. And then they realize you're in the group chat as well and that's when they decide to reply.
Especially when you know the other person is online because Facebook says they're online. Like they just posted about their 10th basic Starbucks cappuccino but they won't reply to you.

Or when you're in a group chat and you ask a question but everyone ignores you...
Sometimes I get fed up and become passive aggressive and just say "K good talk".

Not pointing any fingers at any particular people and/or groups. Just salty stuff that has happened to me recently.

  1. LOL this post is really funny! I totally get what you're saying--that's happened to me before, mostly on Facebook Messenger. It is annoying when people don't reply to your message that they've obviously seen. I guess sometimes, they are busy but still.

It makes me wonder if apps should even tell you whether or not the person has seen your message. When they don't respond, it just makes you angry and irritated at the person. Great post, Austin!

  2. Dude, this happens to me too. It's mostly with people who I used to be close with and usually don't talk to as much anymore though. It definitely annoys me-- especially if I asked a question.
I get that a lot of people are busy. But, like you said, if they're posting about their starbucks on facebook then something weird is up. Maybe they just looked at the message and then went to go do something and their phone locked, which caused them to forget about it?
I guess, if they do stuff like that consistently though then it's definitely rude.
    Good salty topic!

  5. You always manage to hit a really nice balance of both something personal to you but relatable to all reading. Really enjoyed it.
You do sound awfully salty though

  6. I came back to read your older posts because I genuinely enjoy the sense of humor you manage to pull off so well, and this one didn't disappoint! As someone who has an awful habit of leaving people on read -- I don't understand myself, I hate it, and I try so hard to stop -- it's nice to hear the other side of it. I've literally had nightmares about people I've accidentally ghosted attacking me because they're mad at me!! Technology is slowly stressing me out to death. Nonetheless, good post!
